RESNET announces publication of the COMNET Commercial Buildings Energy Modeling Guidelines and Procedures.

This manual offers guidance to building energy modelers, ensuring technically rigorous and credible assessment of energy performance of commercial and multifamily residential buildings. It provides a streamlined process that can be used with various existing modeling software and systems, across a range of programs.

Notably, the COMNET guidelines will offer the first truly straightforward, cost-effective, and widely applicable procedures for owners to demonstrate that their buildings qualify for federal energy efficient building tax deductions of up to $1.80 per square foot, per Section 179D of the Internal Revenue Code. The guidelines can also be used in calculating percent energy savings for point eligibility for green building rating systems, and in modeling annual energy consumption for use with building energy labels. The guidelines are now available for incorporation by reference.

The COMNET Guidelines and Procedures are the product of a consensus development process involving extensive public review and comment. The process was led by RESNET's COMNET Standing Committee (see below). Architectural Energy Corporation is COMNET's lead technical contractor staffing development of the guidelines.
